Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Check Storage, move large personal files and make a Time Machine backup. Do not delete the System/Library directories.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Transferring large files
Create a copy, transfer your personal files, and verify that the copy opens.
Steps to follow
- Connect another media that has enough free space and is not the only copy of important files.
- Open your documents and photos folders. Highlight the most important files and choose Copy instead of Cut.
- In the other media, create a new folder and select Paste. Wait for the copying to finish.
- Open multiple copied documents and photos. If the reading stops or the disk disappears, do not try again - contact the master to save the files.
Organizing the repository
After checking the contents, empty the recycle bin and remove only unnecessary personal files; do not touch the system partitions.
Steps to follow
- Click on the Apple icon in the top left and select System Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Storage.
- View the largest categories of your files and apps.
- Delete unnecessary personal files only after verifying copies. Open Trash and check the contents before Empty Trash.
- Review the available space again and the need for the installation wizard; Do not delete System/Library or partitions.
If the problem persists
Only empty the Recycle Bin after verifying the contents and move large files to verified media. The installation wizard may require more space than the download itself; do not delete system partitions.
