Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Update macOS, check Login Items, unfamiliar Applications, Profiles (if any), browser extensions and notifications. macOS has built-in security mechanisms, but no system is 100% secure.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Program and startup check
View unfamiliar Applications and Login Items and update macOS.
Steps to follow
- Click on the Apple icon in the top left and select System Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Login Items & Extensions.
- See Open at Login and background applications. Write down an unfamiliar entry, do not delete it blindly on the work device.
- Finder > Applications compare recently installed applications; identify an unknown related program by its official publisher.
- Check macOS Software Update; combine the job management profile with the administrator.
Browser and permission check
For advertisements or redirects, check extensions and messages; coordinate work management profiles with the administrator.
Steps to follow
- Select Settings > Extensions from the Safari menu, Chrome - menu > Extensions > Manage Extensions.
- Disable only the suspicious or recently added extension and compare the behavior.
- Safari Settings > Websites > Notifications or Chrome Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications cancel notifications from unfamiliar websites.
- Reopen your browser. If the ads remain, check the unwanted program, do not disable all protection.
If the problem persists
If you see constant advertising redirects or an unfamiliar management profile, do not rush to remove it from your work computer - contact the administrator. View permissions and logins from a trusted device in your personal account.
