How do I rotate an upside-down computer screen?

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Open Settings > System > Display > Screen Orientation and select Landscape. On older systems, Ctrl+Alt+Up Arrow sometimes works, but this combination is not always enabled.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Setting the orientation

In Display settings, select Landscape for the display you want to rotate.

    Steps to follow

    1. Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
    2. Select "System".
    3. Select "Display".
    4. Click on the inverted screen in the diagram; "Identify" helps you identify the number.
    5. Find "Screen Orientation" and select "Landscape".
    6. Confirm "Save Changes" when the image is correct.
  2. Automatic rotation lock

If the screen rotates again and the device has auto-rotate, check its lock.

    Steps to follow

    1. Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
    2. Select "System".
    3. Select "Display".
    4. If your device has a rotation sensor, look for "Rotation Lock" and turn it on.
    5. If the option isn't there, the device or its mode doesn't support it - don't look for a fix with registry changes.
    6. Return the orientation to Landscape and move the device to check that the image does not rotate again.

If the problem persists

If the image rotates again, disconnect the external display and check its settings separately. On a device with tablet mode, check auto-rotate and rotation lock.
