Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
In Windows Terminal, open the PowerShell tab specifically and run Get-CimInstance Win32_BIOS | Select-Object SerialNumber. On the command line, this PowerShell command will not work directly. If the value is blank or generic, check BIOS, the manufacturer's program and the case sticker. A model is sufficient for diagnostics; do not make the serial number public.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
PowerShell query
In the PowerShell tab, run Get-CimInstance Win32_BIOS and view the SerialNumber value.
Steps to follow
- Click Start and type PowerShell in the search box.
- Open the found PowerShell program.
- Type Get-CimInstance Win32_BIOS | Select-Object SerialNumber and press Enter.
- View the SerialNumber line. If blank or generic, use manufacturer's data; do not make the number public.
Number provided by the manufacturer
If the value is empty, use BIOS, the manufacturer's program, or the case sticker; do not make the number public.
Steps to follow
- Turn off the laptop and inspect the external sticker without opening the case.
- Look for the S/N or Serial Number tag; if not readable, open the manufacturer's official device information.
- Check the model and number with your purchase documents. Please include the model in the comments, not the full serial number.
If the problem persists
If the command is not supported or the number is empty, check BIOS, the manufacturer's program and the sticker on the case. Do not post the serial number in the comments; provide the model for diagnosis.
