Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Self-taps on the Surface screen are called ghost touch. They can be caused by the screen surface, accessories, software, or touch layer failure. If the screen has bounced off the case, turn off the device and do not charge it until the battery is checked.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Surface and accessory inspection
Eliminate external causes.
Steps to follow
- Save your work, turn off Surface, and wipe the screen with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not spray the liquid on the edges.
- Unplug the charger, dock, and other accessories. If the screen is severely cracked or bounced, do not continue testing.
- Turn on with battery and check if clicks repeat. Notice if they are always in the same place.
- If the problem only occurs with a particular charger, stop using it and compare it with an original power supply suitable for the model.
UEFI testing and temporary mouse control
Separate the Windows environment from the touch of the machine.
Steps to follow
- Connect the mouse. According to the official instructions for your Surface model, run UEFI; do not change security and boot settings.
- Check the UEFI menu for auto-touches. If so, record the result and request a repair.
- If the UEFI touch is normal, go back to Windows and install updates for Surface via Windows Update, then reboot.
- If erroneous clicks are interfering with your work, only the HID-compliant touch screen can be temporarily disabled in Device Manager > Human Interface Devices. First, make sure the mouse is working.
If the problem persists
If the touch is also wrong in the Surface UEFI environment, rewriting Windows is not the first solution. Contact us for touch system diagnostics. Until repair, the mouse can be used and touch can be temporarily disabled if there is no damage to the battery or case.
