Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Choose an available window layout from the Mac window's green button or layout menu. In older macOS, Split View is accessed by holding or hovering over the green button, selecting left or right side and a second window. In newer versions, the simple window layout may differ from Split View; not all apps support it.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Split View
If the program supports it, select the left or right side and another window with the green button of the window.
Steps to follow
- Open two apps that support Split View.
- Select the Tile left/right full screen option from the green button at the top of the first window; the menu can be opened by pressing or holding.
- Select a second window for the other side and compare. If there is no option, use the normal window layout, do not force an unsupported application.
Newer macOS window layout
If a window layout menu is presented, select the desired scheme; it may differ from Split View.
Steps to follow
- Open two normal windows.
- In newer macOS, choose the suggested transition or layout side from the green window button if your version provides it.
- Place the second window on the other side and change the width as needed. If there is no menu, use the previous Split View or arrange the windows with the mouse.
If the problem persists
If there is no window layout option, check the application support and macOS version. Split View and simple windowing are not quite the same thing; try two common applications.
